Most authors ask for your web address when commenting on a blog. In most cases, the blog leaves a link back to your site.
Don't go to every blog on the internet and leave comments like "this is a cool post." etc. just to get a link. You must understand that the search engines have caught on to this years ago and have put a stop to this tactic. Most blogs have the nofollow links from comments.
If and when you make comments, make sure they make sense and the information is useful. By doing this, you may get the benefit of an extra link.
