Tracking Web Site Search

Next step marketing part 2

In my last post on 4/7/11, I talked about setting up your google anylytics in your next step marketing Today I will show you the steps on how to track your web site in Google Analytics.

Tracking your site search

1) Log into your google analytics site.

2) Click edit next to the Web site you want to track site search.

3) Click the edit at the top of the page next to the main web site information.

4) Click the "Do track site search radio button."

5) Now leave this page open in your browser, second open a separate browser window for the next steps

6) In the new browser you opened up go to your website.

7) Search for "key terms in your site" using your sites search tool.

8) Look at the address of the search result page.

A) You should see the key words you typed in the address as well as a query attribute (such as q= or search=)

9) Enter the query attribute into the Query Parameter field in google Analytics.

10) Click finish and you should start seeing the results in a few hours.

This is a great way to start tracking your site for better key word results usage.
